Talent MRacing X Ligier
Four-time WTCC World Champion Yvan Muller and gentleman driver Laurent Millara have joined forces to create a new talent detection program: Talent MRacing X Ligier. The objective is to allow a driver to enter endurance racing in the Ligier European Series, the single-make championship organized by the European Le Mans Series during its meetings. Two selection days are scheduled for November 25 and 26, 2021 at the Circuit Club and the Circuit F1 de Magny-Cours to determine the winner who will be offered a full season in 2022 in the Ligier European Series at the wheel of a Ligier JS2 R of the MRacing team, worth 100,000 euros. The icing on the cake, the winner will benefit from the support of Yvan Muller and Yann Ehrlacher.
Give a driver a chance to break into endurance racing
The principle of the Talent MRacing X Ligier is simple: to give a driver the opportunity to take his first steps and progress in the world of endurance racing. Many drivers have succeeded in making a career in motorsport thanks to steering wheels, » explains Yvan Muller, four-time WTCC World Champion and Team Manager of the MRacing team. We launched a similar project a few years ago with a selection on a simulator. Since we have been working together with Laurent, we wanted to bring this project back to life and allow a driver to enter endurance racing.
When you have the opportunity to help and pass on your passion, don’t hesitate », explains Laurent Millara, gentleman driver and driver for several years of the MRacing team. This is a project that is very close to my heart. There are so many drivers today who deserve a chance to go further and who need a little help.
A season in the Ligier European Series in a MRacing Ligier JS2 R
To launch its new detection program, MRacing has chosen the Ligier European Series, the series created in 2020 by French manufacturer Ligier Automotive and the European Le Mans Series teams. The winner will be offered a full season in 2022 with the MRacing team in one of its Ligier JS2 R cars, worth 100,000 euros including VAT.
The series has been designed as the base of the endurance pyramid, a springboard for drivers wishing to start their career in the sport and then progress to the Michelin Le Mans Cup and the European Le Mans Series in order to one day reach the grail of the Le Mans 24 Hours. Organized by the European Le Mans Series teams during its race weekends, the series offers drivers all the keys to getting started in the sport as well as great exposure to the world’s leading endurance manufacturers and teams.
The MRacing team has already been involved in the series for two years. In 2020, it came close to the title by finishing runner-up in the Ligier JS2 R class. Back in 2021 with two Ligier JS2 R cars, the team is currently at the top of the provisional Ligier JS2 R championship standings: its Silver driver Natan Bihel is leading the championship and Laurent Millara is firmly in third place. The winner of the Talent MRacing X Ligier will benefit from all the team’s experience in this championship as well as the support of Yvan Muller and Yann Ehrlacher, who together have five World Championship titles in WTCC and WTCR.
It’s an accessible race format, » says Laurent. The Ligier JS2 R is a reliable car and very easy to drive. It is the ideal tool to start in competition and endurance. The series visits some of the most beautiful circuits in Europe and has great media exposure with meetings taking place at the same time as the European Le Mans Series and Michelin Le Mans Cup endurance championships.
A two-day detection at Magny-Cours
In order to determine the chosen one, two days of detection are organized at Magny-Cours in France, on November 25 and 26, 2021. A busy program awaits the participants. For the first day on November 25, the Magny-Cours Circuit Club will be the venue. Before climbing aboard the Ligier JS2 R, participants will receive a briefing with Yvan Muller and a presentation of the Ligier JS2 R by the manufacturer Ligier Automotive. The participants will start for two series of four discovery laps and one series of five timed laps. The average of the three laps run during the timed series will determine the ten finalists of this first day of selection.
The next day, the grand finale will take place on the F1 circuit of Magny-Cours. After two series of four laps, the finalists will compete in a final timed session of five laps. The average of the three laps run in the last series will be used to establish a ranking of the finalists. The ten finalists will also have to pass an interview with a jury composed of Yvan Muller, a physical and mental trainer, and a journalist specialized in motor sports. This interview will evaluate their state of mind, their motivation and the quality of their personal project. It will be decisive in the selection of the winner. To participate, drivers must be over 16 years of age on the day of the detection and not be classified as « Platinium » or « Gold » by the FIA.
